‘음마(音摩)’는 소리를 어루만져 음악을 만들고,
‘갱깽’은 대장간에서 나는 소리의 의성어를 나타내는 것으로,
‘음마갱깽’은 인형 및 인형막, 악기 등
공연에 필요한 오브제들을 만든다는 뜻이다.
Eumma, from the full Korean name EummaGangkkang, is a combined word made of 'Eumma', meaning “touching the sound” to create music and “Gangkkang,” an onomatopoeia for the sound of a blacksmith's workshop. It means that we as a group are committed to the creation of what’s needed for performances such as puppets, puppet stages and scenery and instruments.

국가중요무형문화재 ‘남사당놀이’ 중 덜미(인형극)를 중심으로 온고지신의 정신을 지키면서도
현대에 맞는 풍자와 해학을 인형극을 통해 보여주고자 하는 단체이다.
여러 인형제작방식에 대한 연구와 개발을 통해 전통인형의 한계점을 극복하고,
다양한 표현과 움직임이 가능한 전통인형을 개발하여 대중들에게 국악과 인형극을 접목한
‘음마갱깽’만의 유일한 오브제극을 알리고자 한다.

Our group continues the legacy and creation of traditional puppetry based on the traditional Korean puppetry Dulmi, a part of the Intangible Cultural Heritage, Namsadangnori.
While preserving the lineage of traditional Korean puppetry, we also aim to widely promote Eumma's creative puppetry, which explores combinations with various genres and contents.
Eumma continues the lineage of traditional Korean puppetry while creating original puppetry through exploring the combination with various genres and contents.
Eumma is actively promoting its outstanding works to gain widespread recognition.
